My Amps

I love to work with electronics. For a few years I've been making some small guitar headphone amps. They are fairly simple and just give .2 distortion, but you can really crank them and wail on your ear drums. They were mostly designed with a low-end crunch in mind. My strings usually go .11 - .52, so I'm not a van halen flying high guitar person. I'm a stevie ray vaughan thick sound person. So, results may vary. Here is the basic schematic that I use. I sometimes add in a variable resistor to change the distortion, but usually I just tie 1 to 8 straight for the .2.

Candy Lunchbox - [2000] - This is the first amp I made. I put an on/off switch and used the candy dish because it could hold the battery as well.

Film Canister - [2000] - I decided to get the amp smaller by letting the battery hang out. The film canister seemed to be the perfect choice.

Film Canister Monster - [2001] - In order to hold the battery I thought I'd make one where I basically melted all of the components onto the film canister and put the battery inside. It turned out...um....interesting.

Pez Dispenser - [2001] - Just for fun I thought I'd put one in a pez dispenser since the candy part easily could hold the board and I could cram the input jack into his head. I even melted a hole into his cheek for the volume knob.

Play-Doh Container - [2003] - As a gift I made one in a mini party favor play-doh container. This is definitely the best amp I've ever made. I revised my schematic to have less components, and be more space efficient so I was able to fit it and the battery inside. Plus I finally got a dremel and some other tools so I didn't have to melt the plastic. yay!
